This week I’ll be focusing all my attention on this one product. I know liquid lipsticks have exploded on the beauty scene in the past year; multiple affordable options are now available but I will always be loyal to the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks. You may or may not be over the whole matte lip trend but let me tell you about these! You need to know this!
It all started with my first ‘perfect’ liquid lipstick, the Lime Crime Velveteen. It was my first introduction to a liquid lipstick and I was floored, what a brilliant concoction. Of course, Lime Crime has an outlandish shade range, is hard to get and the website has sketchy credentials which led to an epic google search to find the perfect liquid lipstick formula.
After discounting similar options from Stila and MUFE, I went ahead and purchased Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Bauhau5, a deep raspberry pink. The formula won me over! It’s lightweight, thin in consistency, pigmented and long wearing. What more could you ask for. It ticked all boxes but my main motivation behind it was the famed ‘transfer resistant’ quality. Around 10-15 minutes after it sets, it turns truly matte and is very much transfer proof unless you rub hard at it. It will last through an entire meal though it will come off if it comes in contact with oily/greasy food. Even so, it will leave a stain behind and not flake or crumble over time.
It sits well over a thin lip balm layer while applying and doesn’t feel overly drying. It’s by far my most comfortable liquid lipstick I’ve used. Happy with the $20 I spent on Bauhau5, the next purchase I made was Lolita which is the perfect mauve nude! It’s very hard to capture the exact shade because the lighting can make it look more brown or pink. Although it’s described as a chestnut rose, I feel like it leans more cool-toned on me. If I’m going out for dinner or movies and I want a long wearing lipstick, Lolita is my go to! The pigmentation is even and like BauHau5, the colour deepens as you add more layers.
I wasn’t satisfied with just two though. Last year I picked up Double Dare when the shade range expanded, it’s almost a shade in between the two Lolitas but lighter. It’s hard to describe it, but it’s almost a coral leaning nude on me. And possibly the last addition to my mini collection, is Lolita II, a terracotta nude. I think I’m covered when it comes to nude liquid lipsticks now.
Swatches : Bauhau5, Lolita, Double Dare, Lolita II
Out of the other liquid lipsticks in my stash, these are my favourite. A more affordable option like the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet has a good shade range and comfortable formula but I find it lacking when it comes to transfer resistance. I’ve also tried the Nyx Soft Matte Lip Creams which are comfortable but feel heavier on the lips and again, not quite transfer proof. Something similar like the Hourglass Opaque Rouge have a more drying and tacky formula and my lone Sephora Cream Lipstain is quite drying as well. Maybe I should do a more thorough post comparing these?
What I do like about this range are the colours and that the formula is pretty consistent among the lot! I also love mixing shades, Lolita and Lolita II together brings out the perfect nude! They’re also lightly vanilla scented which is nice. I feel like the $20 price is justifiable for the product in terms of quality and packaging, it’s worthwhile but not obscene. I also like the long doe foot applicator but I do usually go over the edges with a lipliner brush to get a more defined look. You can cover the entire lip with just one swipe of product. My only disappointment stems from the fact that you can only buy this at Sephora or the Kat von D website. It’s hard to get a hold off but if you can, it’s worth it!
So are you a liquid lipstick fanatic too? Keep me away from the Kylie Lip Kits!
In other news, I’ve been in the midst of cricket mania which you might have noticed if you follow me on Twitter! Thank you for bearing with me, just a semi-final and hopefully a final to go and I’ll be done with the Virat Kohli spam (for now)!
